Deutsche Bahn and UNICEF win Permodo’s ‘Ad of the Year’ award

Permodo, the Ströer Group's multi-screen specialist, has announced the winners of the ‘Permodo Ad of the Year’. The competition recognises the most creative and effective advertisements of the past year in the field of mobile and multi-screen ads. To mark the fifth anniversary of the award, the ceremony was held live in front of an audience for the first time. 200 invited guests, including numerous marketing decision-makers and advertisers, applauded the winning teams last night in Düsseldorf. Deutsche Bahn AG and Dentsu won the ‘Mobile Ads’ category. UNICEF received the award in the new ‘Multi-screen Ads’ category.

“We are delighted for the award winners, who were able to prevail in a really strong field of competitors,” says Thorsten Schüttler, Managing Director of Permodo GmbH. “By expanding the competition to include the ‘Multi-screen Ads’ category, we also want to reflect our own transformation into a one-stop shop for cross-platform creation and marketing.” 

The winners

Ten campaigns out of more than 2,000 submissions made it onto the short list.  The winners were selected in an online vote. 

Multi-screen Ads category: UNICEF

“The winning ads are part of an important campaign for UNICEF Germany, into which we put a great deal of energy in collaboration with our partner agencies Serviceplan and la red. However, the campaign only gains power and visibility through innovative high-impact advertising formats and precise targeting of the target groups. This is exactly what we have achieved with Permodo,” says Andreas Bobowk, Head of Digital Marketing – Digital and Technology Department, German National Committee for UNICEF.

Mobile Ads category: Deutsche Bahn / Dentsu

“At Deutsche Bahn, our marketing aspiration is to stay ahead of the wave. For our Permodo ad, we wanted to develop content that would arouse curiosity and motivate our target group to engage with the advertising material and our content. Successful user engagement keeps us in tune with the times and in the hearts of our target groups. In this campaign, our aim was to raise awareness of the very important, but not self-explanatory, railway profession of the rail traffic controller. With the ad, we have, in collaboration with Permodo and our creative agency Grabarz & Partner, found an entertaining, creative way to bring this job to life for skilled workers in a playful way via a new touchpoint. In this way, we are increasing engagement with us as an attractive employer,” says Steve Goodwin, Head of HR Marketing and Employer Branding, Deutsche Bahn AG.

The ‘Ad of the Year’ award is presented annually by Permodo to recognise the importance of creative advertisements in the digital environment. The award ceremony was held for the fifth time in 2025 and took place live in front of invited guests for the first time. The evening was hosted by the popular TV presenter Frank ‘Froonck’ Matthée.
