Press release
A current severe weather warning from the DWD for heavy continuous rain can be seen in the affected regions on Ströer's digital media carriers / Around 6,000 digital media carriers throughout Germany can display the severe weather warnings in advance
In more than 300 cities in Germany, Ströer's digital city information screens, placed at traffic junctions and in city centres, act as official, system-relevant warning multipliers. The multifunctional screens can inform, educate and warn in real time. In the event of an emergency, they provide visual information in advance and can thus inform and instruct citizens specifically for the respective region.
As part of a co-operation with the German Weather Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst, in short: DWD), around 6,000 Ströer digital city information systems in public spaces can now display official severe weather warnings in advance and in real time in the event of an emergency. Warnings of severe weather conditions, such as extreme heat, heavy rain or gale-force winds, can be displayed regionally on the digital media displays. Ströer thus acts as the DWD's official warning multiplier in public spaces to maximise support for crisis teams in their work.
Depending on the severity of the weather, the warning is included in the regular playout loop once it has been published by the DWD. The severe weather warnings on the screens provide important information at a glance as well as information on when severe weather events such as heavy rain, extreme heat, etc. will occur. They help citizens to prepare for possible dangers and be prepared in the event of a crisis.
„Being informed and prepared in advance of an extreme weather situation can prevent property damage and even save lives. We use our digital media to warn people in public spaces. With our Germany-wide network of city information systems, we are able to reach people directly and pass on specific information from the German Weather Service. In addition to the connection to the modular warning system of the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance, our cooperation with the German Weather Service is another important milestone in public communication“, says Alexander Stotz, CEO of Ströer Media Deutschland GmbH.
In addition to the agreement with the German Weather Service, Ströer has been an official warning multiplier of the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance since 2018 and is therefore able to issue official warnings and all-clear messages. Ströer has entered into further regional and local agreements with cities, municipalities and fire and police departments that also have a need for a warning multiplier.
