Campaign during the European Football Championship (14 June - 14 July) / Telekom is broadcasting tournament goals on over 5,500 Ströer Public Video screens and around 2,000 displays in all Telekom shops in Germany / Artificial intelligence (AI) “cuts” goal scenes
An unprecedented experience: all the goals from a major football tournament will be broadcast in near real time throughout Germany. As a media partner of UEFA EURO 2024, Deutsche Telekom is showing all the goals of the European Championship not only on MagentaTV, but also on over 5,500 digital screens from Ströer throughout Germany. The screens are located at train stations, shopping centres and on underground and rapid transit platforms in almost all major German cities. The goal clips will also be shown on around 2,000 displays in all Telekom shops.
“We bring the EURO to the people. Wherever they are. That’s why we’re not only showing all 51 matches live and in UHD quality on MagentaTV, we’re also keeping the ball rolling on displays in public spaces such as train stations and shopping centres,” says Christian Loefert, Head of Marketing Communications at Telekom Deutschland.
Richard Offermann, SVP Direct Client Sales Ströer Media Solutions, adds: “Thanks to this campaign, football is reaching even more people in Germany: around 44 million viewers have the opportunity to follow the goal highlights on our media almost in real time. This innovative concept is being implemented for the first time and will undoubtedly generate an enormous amount of attention and euphoria during the four weeks of the tournament.”
Artificial intelligence selects and “cuts” goal scenes
As the official partner for telecommunications services for UEFA EURO 2024, Deutsche Telekom will ensure that the ten host cities, the team and training quarters and all official fan zones are connected via fibre optics. In addition, all ten stadiums will be connected to UEFA’s International Broadcast Centre (IBC) in Leipzig. From there, the TV images of the matches will be broadcast to the world.
The roughly 20-second goal clips, which will only be shown in Germany, will be compiled with the help of artificial intelligence. The AI selects the most relevant scenes and adjusts the length. In addition, it identifies the necessary formats for the different displays and automatically adjusts the important image sections.
“This is a milestone,” says Loefert. “The AI ensures that the goal clips are broadcast on the displays with a maximum time delay of three minutes.” And if viewers miss the first run-through, no problem: the clips are repeated four times.
All matches on MagentaTV
Deutsche Telekom’s MagentaTV is the only platform that will show all 51 UEFA EURO 2024 matches in Germany from 14 June to 14 July. Five of the matches will be exclusive. From the German group, these include Hungary versus Switzerland (15 June, 3 p.m.), Scotland versus Hungary (23 June, 9 p.m.) and Slovenia versus Serbia (20 June, 3 p.m.). The other two matches will be determined at a later date.
